The Balcony Is Closed: RIP Roger Ebert

Truly saddened to learn that Roger Ebert passed away today at age 70. He was simply the best movie critic of our lifetime, a genuine cinema scholar who truly loved his work, and one helluva writer. Thyroid cancer took his voice a few years ago, but he continued to submit reviews for the Chicago Sun-Times and post poignant commentary on his blog.

What a loss. What a life.

UPDATES: The Sun-Times website can’t handle the traffic to Ebert’s sites right now. Esquire ran one of the best interviews with Ebert in 2010. The New York Times obituary is a gem.

Sometime soon, to honor Ebert, watch Citizen Kane, drink a root beer, and enjoy a pint of Haagen-Dazs.
