Behind the Box Score: Scherzer’s 1st Win of 2013

Good to see Max Scherzer back on the mound for the Detroit Tigers this afternoon. Not his best start, but he struck out seven Yankees before getting pulled in the sixth inning. If he stays healthy, Scherzer’s my early pick for the AL Cy Young.

How he stays mentally healthy is beyond my capability to understand. Last year, Scherzer’s younger brother Alex, committed suicide after a long battle with depression. ESPN’s Robert Sanchez writes one of the more moving profiles you’ll read all season.
