Methinks The Bard, born this day in 1564, would appreciate the tens of thousands of people heading out today to share their love of reading on World Book Night. This year, five students and two teachers at my high school will distribute 140 books to remind reluctant readers that, as William Nicholson wrote, “We read to know we are not alone.”

Three Weeks Until World Book Night 2013!
25,000 volunteers handing out 20 books each to unlikely book owners in one night. That’s the magic of World Book Night 2013. Last year, I was fortunate enough to put Zeitoun, by Dave Eggers, in the hands of 20 high school students. This year, I’ve got 20 copies of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale for my students at Grand Rapids Community College. Half a million books given away, all in one night. Each blue pin on the map below represents one book provider! Awesome.
